Cave Bianchi, Nice

March 24, 2013

Cave Bianchi, dating back to 1860, specializes in local and Provençal specialties and offers an extensive selection of rosés as well as the usual grands crus from Bordeaux and Burgundy.

Vieux Nice hides many a secret; however the wonderful 17th Century underground vaulted cellars at Cave Bianchi have to be amongst the best kept of them. Open since 1860, making it one of the oldest wine shops in the region, a series of tasting menus are available to chose; from the more lean ‘Daily Appointments’ tasting for €7, which offers a glass of wine with a detailed explanation of the bottle and the region, to the more intimate ‘Duo sur un Tonneau’ which combines a very special bottle of fine wine to select from either Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire or Provence, a cheese plate, and an atmospheric setting in the underground cellars surrounded by some very precious wines. All explained expertly by staff fluent in English and Russian. A larger cellar across the road provides a unique venue for larger group events and the occasional jazz evening. Reservations necessary.

The location in Vieux Nice is just a few blocks from the Place Masséna in one direction and the Mediterranean in the other.

Open Sundays through Thursdays from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.
