This August is a celebration of fantastic music with Marbella’s outdoor music festival Starlite.
The Marbella Startlite Festival has a history dating back 30 years, when three well-known visionaries Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, Julio Iglesias and Plácido Domingo united to re-invent the Marbella Quarry as a stunning natural amphitheatre for an international music festival. This amazing outdoor venue generates an extraordinary acoustic, is surrounded by nature and lies under the stars. A perfect backdrop for its first performance; a tenor concert in 1983.
Now, this unique festival, reborn under the title Starlite, is considered one of the major Spanish social events, gathering in each of its previous editions over 100 personalities from business, politics, film, sports, fashion, art or music for one month every summer. Part of Starlite’s success is owed to the visitors’ proximity to top level artists who perform in intimate and close concerts.
After three decades, entrepreneurs Sandra Garcia-Sanjuán and Ignacio Maluquer have made the Marbella quarry vibrate again; with just two consecutive editions, the Starlite Festival has become the largest leisure and tourism business in Costa del Sol area.
The festival goes beyond the mere concept of music, and has become Europe’s flagship social and cultural extravaganza. The Starlite Village is a place where guests will be able to enjoy as many as 150 shows and more than 100 hours of music by top DJs.
Experience the concerts, dance the night away at the Starlite Disco, enjoy a varied range of culinary treats and international flavours at the festival’s gourmet corners or book a table at La Meridiana del Alabardero, a top-class restaurant which will be joining Starlite 2014, visit the Starlite Auditorium which one night a week turns into an amazing open air summer cinema with the largest screen of Spain, watch fashion shows, and view art exhibitions.
